Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum

After enjoying a delicious Buffet breakfast, meet your Egyptologist/Guide and begin your exploration of Egypt’s Ancient Wonders.

You will Visit the legendary Great Pyramids of Giza, the last surviving wonder of the ancient world, along with the mysterious Great Sphinx, proclaimed to be among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World!! 

Enjoy having your photo taken with the Great Pyramid as the backdrop!! 100,000 professional and non-professional workers were used to carry-out the back-braking task of moving and laying the gigantic stones of the largest Pyramid - Cheops!!!

Continuing on to the spectacular NEW ‘Grand Egyptian Museum’, the largest archaeological museum in the world, totally dedicated to a single civilization!! Home to thousands of priceless artifacts including the Treasures of Tutankhamun; many never seen before!!

You will have approx 3 to 4 hours to wander thru the Museum and enjoy lunch or a snack in one of the many cafes.  Your tour guide will give you the time and place to meet.

• Valley of the Kings – Explore the Pharaonic Tombs located at the world-famous Valley of the Kings which is studded with highly decorated Tombs (some you may enter) The best known are Ramses 11, Seti 1, Amenhotep 11 and the infamous, King Tutankhamun!!
• Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces, is one of Egypt’s finest monuments!! Her reign of 21 years was one of the most prosperous and peaceful in Egyptian History.  Hatshepsut was a female King!!
• Colossi of Memnon, which represents the remains of the Temple of the hedonistic, Amenophis 111

Option - Weather Permitting.  Rise early morning for an exciting Hot Air Balloon Ride over Luxor.  Enjoy watching the Sun Rise over the West Bank.  Return at Breakfast.

• The Cost of the Hot Air Balloon Ride is 3800 Egyptian Pounds (EGP) approx $100cdn.  You can pay by Credit Card or Cash in EGP.  Paid locally.

ABUL SIMBEL

The Temples were originally carved out of the mountainside in the 13^th century, BC during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses 11.  Dedicated to the Goddess Hathor and his Great Royal Wife, Nefertari who he loved above all others!!  The Temples were relocated in 1969 to avoid being submerged by the Aswan High Dam!!

Cost – 7600 to 11,400 Egyptian Pounds per person (approx $200cdn to $300cdn).  Pay by Credit Card or Cash – EGP.  Price is determined, once the number of participants is confirmed and type of Vehicle needed.

NOTE:  For those Not Participating in the Abul Simbel tour, you have the opportunity to visit the Old Cataract Hotel in town where Agatha Christie wrote her famous Novel “Death on the River Nile”. 

The hotel was built in 1899 by adventurer Thomas Cook and is a luxury ‘Victoria Style’ property.  Enjoy a Cup of Tea on the terrace which offers a panoramic view of the Nile.  You can also visit the well-curated Nubian Museum.  A taxi can be ordered for the short ride to town.

Enjoy a relaxing breakfast before visiting the amazing sites of Philae Temple, Awan High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk.  Remainder of the day, sail along the Nile while admiring rural Egyptian landscapes!

• Philae Temple Complex - located on Agilika Island and is dedicated to the Goddess Isis!! The Temple dates from the 4^th century BC but the Ptolomies and the Romans (up to the 3^rd century AD) built most of the existing structures!! The Philae Temple remains one of Egypt’s most romantic and picturesque sites having been completely relocated following work on the Dam.
• Aswan High Dam is constructed with 18 times the material used to create the Great Pyramid of Cheops. It took 35,000 workers to build this gigantic structure. When it was completed, the water that collected behind the Dam became Lake Nasser, the world’s largest artificial Lake!!!

• Unfinished Obelisk is the largest known ancient Obelisk that was never completed. It is speculated that it was commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut. It’s estimated length is 42 meters and weighs approx 1200 tons.

After a leisurely breakfast, meet your guide for a half-day Cairo City Tour.

The tour begins with the Islamic area of Cairo which includes Salah din Citadel and the Mohamed Ali Mosque.  We continue to the Coptic area of Cairo where the Romans constructed the Fortress of Babylon!!  The Church of St Mary was built over the ruins of Two Towers of the Fortress and is commonly known as the Hanging Church!!

After the sites, we will stop for an Egyptian Lunch.  Return to the hotel to finish packing................................
